Formaldehyde Process Plant

Key Insights

✓ Comprehensive EPC Solution
The project encompassed a full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package. This included both basic and detailed engineering design for the entire Tank Farm. Key aspects of the design phase covered equipment sizing, statical calculations, intricate 3D piping layouts, as well as sophisticated instrumentation and control systems, coupled with detailed electrical design. 

✓ Specialized Column and Vessel Construction
A critical component of the project was the fabrication and erection of the 24m Absorption Column, alongside the construction and installation of various 20 bar Pressure Vessels. These are pivotal in the formaldehyde production process. 

✓ Structural Steel and Equipment Installation
The project demanded the fabrication and erection of a Galvanized Steel Structure. This phase also included the meticulous installation of various equipment (heat exchangers, pumps, ventilators, etc.) ensuring structural integrity and operational efficiency. 

✓ Multidisciplinary Construction Management
Entegrator played a pivotal role in managing diverse construction disciplines during the project. This included overseeing civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical aspects, ensuring a cohesive and efficient construction process. 

✓ Utility Requirements for Production
The formaldehyde production process in the plant required a range of utilities. Essential utilities included steam, cooling water, and power, each critical for different unit operations within the production process. This highlighted the plant's complex utility needs to support continuous and efficient production.

✓ SEVESSO Compliance

The Seveso Directive is EU legislation for controlling major industrial accidents involving hazardous substances, focusing on prevention, preparedness, and information dissemination.

✓ BEKRA Compliance

BEKRA is a Turkish regulation mirroring the EU's Seveso Directive. It focuses on preventing and reducing the impact of major industrial accidents involving dangerous substances, mandating safety measures, emergency planning, and notification procedures for affected establishments. 

✓ API 650 Compliance

API 650 is a standard by the American Petroleum Institute for designing and constructing large, welded storage tanks for oil and other liquids, emphasizing safety and environmental compliance.

Outcomes

Fully obtained with all compliance requirements.

The layout has been revised to decrease the scope of civil works, and almost 10% of the concrete has been saved.

The layout has been revised to decrease the energy consumption of the cooling system to save 3% of energy.

The Absorption Column (2m x 24 m) was fabricated in 9 weeks.

✓ Tanks were fabricated and installed in 10 weeks.

Steel Structure was erected in 3 weeks.
